Consular and embassy legalization
When the destination country is not part of the Hague Apostille Convention, an apostille is not enough: the document must go through a legalization chain. Typically, signatures are verified by the issuing body or the relevant ministry, then by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and finally by the embassy or consulate of the destination country.
Every embassy has its own rules — forms, copies, opening hours and fees. We handle the whole chain on your behalf, in São Tomé and abroad, and tell you whether a translation is required before legalization.

Frequently asked questions
When is consular legalization needed instead of an apostille?
Whenever the country where the document will be used is not a party to the Hague Convention, or when the receiving authority explicitly asks for it.
Can you legalize at an embassy that has no mission in São Tomé?
Yes. In that case legalization is done at the embassy or consulate accredited to São Tomé and Príncipe in another country, through our international network.
